January 26, 2024— Oaklandside Reporter Jose Fermosa speaks with Senior Policy Advocate for Transportation, Laurel Paget-Seekins about AC Transit’s recent pause on their “realignment” plans.  The Alameda- Contra Costa Transportation Board had been planning changes to bus lines and schedules as early as this August, but pushed out their vote after  pressure from advocate drivers and riders who want to ensure reliability—particularly for low-income and marginalized communities. Laurel empahsized the need for any reductions in service and scheduling to be equitable.

“If we are going to be having frequency reductions in the short term, it’s critical those reductions don’t overly burden low-income communities who have suffered from historic disinvestment and who have the least time to spare, like hourly workers and students…”
