June 9, 2022 – Public Advocates was on KQED news in a segment that quotes John Affeldt.
“Lawmakers in Sacramento are proposing to spend $4.5B above what Governor is asking for schools in his June budget. They want the additional money to go not just to low-income students but middle-class kids as well. Currently education dollars allocated through the state’s funding formula are targeted to districts that serve a majority of low-income families. John Affeldt is with Public Advocates which helped champion that funding formula a few years ago. ‘What it would have is the effect of bringing a lot more money to districts like Elk Grove or Clovis that are not as needy as say Oakland, LA or San Diego or some of these other districts that have much more concentrated poverty.'”
