October 11, 2023 – This week the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is meeting and one of the issues coming before them is whether to renew the California Basic Educational Skills Test. The CBEST, a test to measure academic competency and job readiness for teachers, continues to serve as a significant barrier for educators of color. As Managing Attorney John Affledt writes, “It’s time to retire this tainted, unfair basic skills test.”
