Michael Cabanatuan of SF Gate covered a meeting of the BART board of directors. Karem Herrera, a member of the Public Advocates team, was featured in the article as one of the people who testified at the hearing. Karem stood before the board to support a sanctuary transportation system.
Karem was the first in her family to go to college, she is a DACA recipient and UC Berkeley graduate, and she plans to attend law school. She rides the BART twice a day, and she should be able to ride the train without the fear of being detained and deported. Thank you, Karem, for courageously speaking out as we face these rightwing attacks out of Washington. We stand with Karem in the struggle against racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. BART, and the entire State of California, must stand with her as well.
