August 24, 2017 – Andrew Edwards of the Long Beach Press Telegram covers our appeal to the California Department of Education against the Long Beach Unified School District. The appeal follows our complaint in April 2017 that alleged that LBUSD misspent $40 million intended for high need students. Though we have filed an appeal to address continued misspending, Senior Staff Attorney Angelica Jongco is quoted in the article discussing some of the changes that LBUSD has already made in response to our complaint.
“We’re here today to celebrate that LBUSD has taken steps to address some of the issues raised in our complaint. Together, these changes result in more than $17 million reclaimed over the next two years towards new or better services for high needs services.”
