Partnering with Oakland United Coalition to Secure Community Benefits in Howard Terminal Ballpark Development
Public Advocates is providing legal and strategic support to the Oakland United Coalition, which we co-founded, to ensure that community needs — including affordable housing, living-wage jobs and displacement protections– are incorporated into a proposed plan for a $500 million ballpark complex on public land in West Oakland and the potential redevelopment of the current Coliseum site in East Oakland.

Facebook Partnership with Envision Transform Build – East Palo Alto
On December 2, 2016, the Envision Transform Build – East Palo Alto (ETB) coalition of community organizations and Facebook announced a ground-breaking and innovative agreement that could be a model for other communities dealing with the affordable housing crisis and resulting displacement of individuals and in some cities, entire communities. Concord Naval Weapons Station
Thanks to the work of the Community Coalition for a Sustainable Concord, of which Public Advocates is a core member, equitable smart growth is coming to the decommissioned Concord Naval Weapons Station. With 25 percent of the homes affordable to people with very low and low incomes, 70 percent of the land preserved as parks and open space, local hire and job training programs, and dense development clustered near public transit, this project will serve as a model for growth in the Bay Area and beyond. Oakland Coliseum City
In an effort to keep the city’s professional sports teams, the City of Oakland is planning to redevelop the arenas and surrounding area into a “Coliseum City.” Development under the plan would bring more than 20,000 jobs and nearly 6,000 homes in East Oakland. To ensure that Coliseum City puts the needs of East Oakland residents first by providing community benefits and affordable housing, Public Advocates is working in coalition with 11 other community and labor organizations representing thousands of East Oakland residents, workers, seniors and youth.
