Angela Perry recently joined Public Advocates as our Legal Fellow. When she is not working hard to affect positive social change, she can likely be found exploring new neighborhoods, doing art and handicraft projects or hanging with Tuna.
Q: Why did you decide to join Public Advocates?
Angela: I went to law school because I wanted to be able to affect positive social change. I have always known that I wanted to work on social justice issues, and when I heard about the amazing work Public Advocates does I knew that I wanted to be a part of the team. Staff Attorney Rigel Massaro and I had been working together on issues around private postsecondary schools for several months, and when I had the opportunity to work at Public Advocates I jumped at the chance.Q: What do you find satisfying about your field?
Angela: It is really amazing to be able to work on a team full of brilliant, passionate people all committed to the goal of creating a better, more equitable future. I feel like I’ve been given the benefit of so many opportunities in my life, and it’s rewarding to be working to ensure that everyone has access to those same opportunities. My work is so fulfilling, and I genuinely enjoy the opportunity to work with community members and students to advocate for quality education and justice.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside work?
Angela: I’ve recently moved to the Bay Area, so I’ve been spending a lot of time exploring (and getting lost) in new neighborhoods in the East Bay. I love spending time outside people watching, and walking down the beautiful streets of Oakland, Berkeley and Piedmont. I’m also enthusiastic about art and handicraft projects, and can spend many hours happily knitting, painting or crafting new projects while sitting on the couch with my cat, Tuna. We both love yarn and watching classic movies, so it’s a great partnership.
