October 13, 2019 – John Fensterwald of EdSource covers Governor Newsom’s veto of AB 751, a bill that would have replaced statewide exams for 11th graders with the SAT and ACT. Public Advocates opposed AB 751 arguing that the SAT and ACT are weak predictors of college performance, and a large proportion of test scores are explained by a student’s background like family income, parental education, and race.
