February 28, 2018 – Lindsey Mckenzie of Inside Higher Ed writes about California’s status as the only state that has not signed on to the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA is a regulatory framework that makes it simpler for colleges and universities to gain state-level approval to offer online education across the U.S.
Public Advocates, mentioned in the article, opposes SARA because “it is a massive, nationwide scheme, in which every state would agree not to enforce their laws against schools based in any other state. This guarantees that the worst online companies will locate in the states with the least oversight, which leaves California’s online students easy targets and potential victims.”
