Welcome to Public Advocates Tia!
Q: Why did you decide to join Public Advocates?
Tia: As a woman of color, I have always felt strongly about issues of social justice, a passion which only intensified during my summer 2015 internship with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in D.C. Additionally, having worked at the UC Davis School of Education as part of several organizations including the California AfterSchool Network and Resourcing Excellence in Education, I was eager for the opportunity to be able to support the Education team at Public Advocates. I am so happy to be a part of Public Advocates and play a role in work that aligns so closely with my previous experience and deeply-rooted interests in civil rights.
Q: What do you find satisfying about your field?
Tia: For me, the most important part about this work is the direct impact that it has on the community. I think that it is often easy to get lost in the routine day-to-day tasks, but seeing the long-term outcomes and understanding the important role that each individual played in the process makes it all completely worth it.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Tia: Exploring new things! Whether this takes form through traveling, trying out a new activity or simply reading a new book, I always love learning and expanding my views about the world. Currently, I have been enjoying honing in on my cooking and yoga skills!
Q: Do you have a favorite quote?
Tia: “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss
Q: Anything else you want to add?
Tia: Thank you to Public Advocates for the opportunity to join such a hardworking and amazing team!
