Liz Ryan Murray

As the Director of Strategic Campaigns within the Metropolitan Equity (“Met”) Team, Liz (she/her) works with Met Team leadership to align our work across team issue areas and geographies in order to maximize our impact. Liz brings her decades of experience to housing justice by working with partners to advance social housing at the local, state, and federal levels. Liz joined Public Advocates in 2017 as the Project Director for CarsonWatch and Alliance for Housing Justice. Previously, she served as the Policy and Communications Director at the community organizing network People’s Action, where she provided policy, communications, research and strategic support to the network’s national campaigns, in coalitions and to their affiliates in 31 states on a broad range of economic and racial justice issues. Liz also led organizing campaigns on affordable housing, ending predatory lending, financial reform, fair taxes and budgets.

Liz began her career in organizing and policy working on Federal Housing Administration reform and community reinvestment issues. After that, Liz was a Senior Affordable Housing Business Manager in the Chicago regional office of Fannie Mae. In 2001, Liz relocated to Minnesota and took the position of Director of Policy and Program Development for the Home Ownership Center of Minnesota where she provided training, funding and support for a statewide network of homeownership and foreclosure prevention counselors. Liz is based in Southern California.
