Jetaun Stevens

Jetaun (she/her/hers) is the Deputy Director of Higher Education & Senior Staff Attorney, where she advocates for equity in the Higher Education system. She joined Public Advocates in March of 2021. She leads the team’s advocacy and enforcement work on developmental education reform policy in the community college system. She also leads the team’s work on affordable student housing including leading the California Affordable Student Housing Coalition. Prior to joining Public Advocates, she served as a Staff Attorney at Children’s Law Center of California where she directly represented youth in the Sacramento county child welfare system for nine years.

Jetaun prides herself on being of service to her community in both her professional and private life. She is a past president of the Greater Sacramento Urban League Young Professionals and former board member of the Greater Sacramento Urban League. She is also an Alumni of the New Leaders Council-Sacramento Chapter (2017) and currently serves on the Advisory Board. She is also a member of the Wiley Manuel Bar Association, the California Black Lawyers Association and the National Bar Association. She is a senior fellow of the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program, Class XIII and currently serves on the board of the California Center for Civic Participation.

She received her J.D. degree from Santa Clara University in 2009 where she was on the Dean’s List. She received her B.A. degree in English from Alabama A&M University in 2005 where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She is an inaugural recipient of the California Black Women’s Collective Trailblazer Hall of Fame Award. She is a native of Sacramento and spends her free time with her two chorkies Bella and Baer.
