Affordable Housing
Fighting for the public policies and funding necessary to build more affordable homes.
A stable, healthy, and affordable home is the bedrock of family and community. Because of the unchecked greed of corporations and a privileged few, most Californians are struggling to pay their rent or mortgage. The state estimates that we need at least one million new homes that are held outside of the private market and permanently affordable to people making lower incomes. To build this housing we need both a massive investment of funding and also rules that prioritize land for development of affordable homes. Public Advocates has fought for decades to expand affordable housing development in all communities so that people who are paid low wages have choices about where to live and stability in their homes. Public Advocates continues to fight for the public policies and funding that is needed to close that gap, with a list of some affordable housing projects we have fought for below.
