The Oaklandside: Public blasts AC Transit report as ‘undemocratic’
July 24, 2026—Oaklandside reporter Jose Formosa covered a new governance report recommending the AC Transit board to limit public comment, hide customer service data, and route rider communications to staff instead of elected board members. Riders, bus drivers, and advocates showed up Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and called it what it was: undemocratic. Public Advocates’ Laurel Paget-Seekins warned that pulling customer service metrics out of public view was a step toward the agency avoiding accountability to the people it serves. By the end of the meeting, the board declined to move the report forward. It’s a reminder that civic power isn’t only exercised at the ballot box—it’s exercised every time someone shows up to fight for a say in how their bus line, their block, their school is run.
