State Transit Transformation Task Force
About the Campaign
As part of a short-term funding package passed in 2023, the California legislature set up a task force to provide recommendations for long-term transit funding and policy changes. The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) appointed 25 people, including a PA staff member, to the task force in late 2023 with the goal of providing policy recommendations to the legislature in October 2025.
We are convening transit advocates and unions to develop priorities and policy recommendations for the task force. The three high level priority areas are to increase state transit operating funding, including for accessible transportation; address the workforce shortages; and reform and reframe how transit efficiency is defined in existing law. As the work of the task force gets fully underway we will engage partners to organize for our joint policy recommendations.
