Advocating for Investments in Affordable Housing and Equitable Housing Policy

We advocate for more investment in affordable housing and for equitable student housing policy to ensure that low-income students are prioritized.

In 2021, for the first time, the state of California invested in the Higher Education Student Housing Grant program, creating over 11,200 units of affordable housing for low-income students across our three higher education segments. While significant, this investment represents a small percentage of the need. Policy-makers, colleges and universities must do more to ensure that a lack of affordable housing no longer hinders access to higher education for low-income students.
