AC Transit Realign

About the campaign

In 2022 AC Transit started a project called Realign to restructure their service in the aftermath of the pandemic. The project has a goal to match service levels to the funding and operators available and to better serve post-pandemic travel needs.

We saw this project as an opportunity to address the poor working conditions—raised by bus operators— and as a potential risk to equitable service allocation. Working with the People’s Transit Alliance and ATU Local 192 we made the issues around unreliable service and a lack of adequate “recovery time” in schedules a priority with the Board of Directors. Unfortunately the Board passed a final plan that reduced service access for minority communities and doesn’t fully address the schedule reliability. We are continuing to work for policy changes to ensure these issues are addressed in AC Transit’s Title VI and Service Delivery policies.
