KPFA Upfront: New Change from CARB Cutting Transit Funding
June 9, 2026—Public Advocates Senior Transportation Policy Advocate Laurel Paget-Seekins joined KPFA’s UpFront—hosted by Brian Edwards-Tiekert—to discuss the California Air Resources Board’s recent vote that would give money to fossil fuel companies and cut funding for transit and affordable housing. Laurel explained the original promise of the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund: to reduce California’s dependence on fossil fuels while directing Cap-and-Invest dollars to the low-income communities and communities of color most harmed by pollution. She broke down how the Manufacturing Decarbonization Incentive could redirect those dollars to industrial polluters—and described what California could look like if transit agencies and affordable housing programs received the investments they were always owed.
