Neighborhood Anti-Displacement and Preservation
Protecting low-income communities from displacement and gentrification.
Public Advocates fights for equitable land use policies and programs that keep our neighbors housed and benefit low-income communities, countering the pressures of profit-driven development and gentrification. In deep partnership with grassroots organizations, we work to ensure that there is meaningful community leadership and influence in local and regional planning processes. We advance collective campaigns that preserve existing affordable housing and community ownership, and control of land and housing. Similarly, we advocate to ensure policies that create value for landowners or developers must recapture a significant portion of that value in the form of affordable homes.
At Public Advocates we build bridges between local efforts to win regional investments (with local efforts to win statewide investments) without displacement.
